July 29 Patch Notes & What to Check

Review the first post-launch Halo: Campaign Evolved update, understand which fixes require a fresh test, and keep the remaining official launch issues separate from problems already addressed by the July 29 patch.

Verify the build before changing settings

Halo: Campaign Evolved received its first post-launch patch on July 29, one day after the standard release. Before applying an old workaround, close the game, allow the platform client to finish its download, and restart the title. Steam players should launch from the Steam library rather than the executable in the installation folder. Xbox and PlayStation players should use the platform’s manage-game screen to confirm that no update remains queued.

A patch can update executable files while leaving a local graphics configuration, custom binding, or interrupted mission checkpoint unchanged. Test the original problem in the simplest reproducible state: no optional Skulls, a fresh mission checkpoint when practical, and a stable display mode. Record the platform, game version, driver version, mission, and exact action that triggers the issue before deciding that the patch did not work.

Several launch issues still have official workarounds

The current release notes continue to warn about cinematic stutter on refresh rates that are not even multiples of 30 Hz. If cutscenes hitch, test 60, 120, or 240 Hz, enable Game Mode on the display, and temporarily disable variable refresh rate. Pausing during a cinematic can also desynchronize audio and video. These are presentation issues, so lowering texture quality or reinstalling the whole game is unlikely to be the most targeted first response.

On PC, starting HaloCampaignEvolved.exe directly can bypass the normal Steam connection and cause sign-in trouble, severe performance loss, or a freeze. Custom key bindings may reset when an existing binding is overwritten; move the old action to an unused key before assigning the desired one. Intel thirteenth- and fourteenth-generation processor crashes may require a motherboard BIOS update because the underlying microcode issue extends beyond this title.

Protect the campaign save while patches are young

The official list says navigation markers may wait for every fireteam member to pass them. In co-op, regroup at the marker before reloading the checkpoint. It also warns that destroying the Banshee after the first generator in Two Betrayals can block progress. Preserve that vehicle until the route advances or a later note explicitly confirms the problem is fixed. In The Maw, AMD driver versions 26.6.2 and 26.6.4 may crash when the introduction is skipped with FSR enabled, so let the cinematic finish or change the affected combination.

Keep a manual note of the last completed mission and collectible totals before troubleshooting. Verify files before reinstalling, and reinstall only after account, update, driver, and mission-specific checks fail. Future patch coverage on this site will use one dated page per update, so an older workaround remains historical instead of being silently presented as current advice.
