Confirm ownership, edition, and the current release window
Halo: Campaign Evolved launched on July 28, 2026. The Premium and Collector’s early-access window began July 23 and is now over, so an old early-access entitlement is no longer required to start the standard game. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass include the base game; Game Pass Essential and Premium do not provide day-one base-game access. A Premium Edition Upgrade also needs owned or eligible base-game access.
Sign into the storefront account that purchased the game or holds the qualifying subscription. If the install button or license is missing, solve store ownership before changing drivers or local files. Close the game, check for an update through Steam, Microsoft Store, Xbox app, Xbox console, or PlayStation’s Check for Update action, and let the queue finish before launching again.
Use the storefront launcher and repair files
Steam users should launch from the Library. Starting HaloCampaignEvolved.exe directly can bypass the normal Steam connection and cause sign-in failure, very poor performance, or a freeze. After a failed update or interrupted download, open Steam Properties and verify installed files. Xbox app users can open Manage, choose Files, and run Verify and repair; Microsoft Store users can begin with the Windows Repair action.
Restart Windows after the repair so launchers, anti-cheat components, graphics drivers, and pending updates start in a clean state. Avoid downloading replacement DLL files or applying registry packages from an unknown source. If repair reports success but the game still fails, reinstall only after preserving the exact error, confirming free storage, and checking that security software did not quarantine a game file.
Separate processor crashes from ordinary launch failures
The official release notes flag startup crashes on some Intel thirteenth- and fourteenth-generation processors as part of a wider microcode problem. If the game closes before the splash screen on that hardware, update the motherboard BIOS using the manufacturer’s instructions rather than changing random game settings. Confirm the exact board model and keep power stable during the firmware process.
When the game reaches a login screen, switch to the dedicated account-error sequence instead of reinstalling. When it opens but crashes only in a mission or cinematic, record the mission, driver, graphics API, upscaler, and action. After update, ownership, library launch, repair, BIOS, and restart checks fail, submit a platform or Halo Support ticket with the reproducible error and system details.
