Match the phonetic error code before changing anything
Alpha means Steam is not running or the signed-in Steam account does not own the game. Bravo points to an invalid or disconnected PlayStation profile. Charlie, Delta, and Echo are network-reachability failures; Golf and Hotel more often indicate a Halo service problem. Foxtrot is a player-profile setup failure, India or Mike can involve account access or enforcement status, and each category needs a different first response.
Write down the exact word and message, close every game instance, and confirm the platform account owns the title. Steam players should start the game from the Steam Library rather than HaloCampaignEvolved.exe. PlayStation players should use a normal connected PlayStation Network profile rather than a guest. For service or network codes, restart the title and network hardware once, then wait before repeating authentication.
Link the intended Microsoft account only once
Steam and PlayStation require a Microsoft account with an Xbox gamertag. The in-game flow displays an eight-character code that is entered at the Microsoft linking page, and that code expires after fifteen minutes. Complete the browser authentication, select the final confirmation action, and return to the game. Closing the browser at the account-preview step can leave the process unfinished even though the credentials were accepted.
Juliett means the platform profile is already linked to another Microsoft account; Kilo means the Microsoft profile is already tied to another platform account of that type. Do not keep guessing accounts or create throwaway profiles. Sign in with the existing linked identity when known. If an unlink is truly required, Halo Support must handle the request, eligibility applies, and the same two accounts cannot be unlinked again for 180 days.
Protect progression before requesting an unlink
Campaign progression—including missions, modes, Skulls, and Terminals—is tied to the Microsoft account. Unlinking removes access to that progression from the affected Steam or PlayStation profile, although it remains on the Microsoft account and other still-linked platforms. Purchased customization is usually tied to the purchasing platform; Waypoint-redeemed promotion items and Twitch Drops follow the Microsoft account across linked platforms.
For a timeout, restart the linking flow and use the new code within fifteen minutes. For an account-signed-in-elsewhere message, close the game on other devices and duplicate PC windows. If the same code persists after the platform, ownership, network, gamertag, and active-session checks, capture the code, UTC time, platform, gamertag, and account-link state before opening a support ticket. That evidence is safer than unlinking first.
